Why I Ship in Public

Shipping in public isn't about building an audience — that's a side effect, not a goal. The real value is the discipline it creates.

When you know others can see your work, you can't hide behind vagueness. "I'm working on something" becomes "here's what I built today and why I made these decisions." The act of explaining forces clarity.

I've found that the posts that performed worst were the ones I was most confident about before writing them. The clarity of public articulation reveals gaps in private thinking.

There's also a quality effect. Work that will be seen tends to be more considered than work that won't. Not performative polish — genuine consideration. What does this actually do? Why does it exist?

Ship early. Ship often. Explain as you go. The compounding effect of consistent public building is slow, then sudden.
